With Mink River in particular I wanted to try to write down Oregon-ness itself, the verve and song and brave of the place, its moist grace, its brawny gentle creativity and prickly community vibe. . .This is not a place where class and money and status and power matter much; it’s a place where creativity and innovation are really savored.
Audiences will come away from Mink River remembering the intrinsic power of the natural world; remembering how interconnected all of us are, and how we depend on each other to survive; remembering the importance of community, family, and inter-generational relationships; remembering to honor our unique cultural backgrounds and knowledge; remembering our histories; remembering what we love and why.
Reading Mink River, I wondered how these carefully crafted stories could translate to film. But when I saw Eileen's images, I knew that the magic of the Oregon Coast and the power of people who live there could lift these words from the page and create a movie that would touch the souls of those who see it.
What an amazing gift to the world, to share these stories with new audiences through film.
